The shoe house

Built in 1948 by Mahlon Haines, the shoehouse was a great display of Mahlon’s flamboyant personality. He used it as an extraordinary way of advertising the over 50 shoe shops he owned. Surprisingly, Mahlon himself never stayed in the shoe, but he was very generous by having 38 elderly couples stay in the shoe each year being waited on safely and all of them living with brand new shoes. Amazing indeed!
